Social Security Disability Income (SSDI) is one of two separate income maintenance programs run by the federal government and administered by the Social Security Administration.  The other is Supplemental Security Income (SSI).  The law in his area is complicated and the advice of an experienced attorney can be crucial to your success in obtaining benefits.

To be eligible for Social Security Disability Income (SSDI) you must have:

    a.     worked and paid into the program through payroll or self-employment taxes in the required amount in 10 of the past 20 annual quarters, and

    b.    have one or more physical or mental impairments that prevent you from engaging in any substantial, gainful employment for at least one year.

When you make your Social Security Disability Income application, the SSA will advise you as to whether you have sufficient work credit to be eligible for SSDI.  If you do not meet the employment history eligibility requirements, you may still qualify for SSI.  (See the Supp. Security Income section.)

The procedure for applying for Social Security Disability Income has recently changed.  Your lawyer can help you understand the process better and prepare your application to give you the best chance of success.

In the event that you initial application is denied, which happens in almost 70% of cases, you are entitled to appeal through several levels to have your claim approved.  The assistance of an attorney in the appeal process is of great value.

We will help you with numerous essential steps in the process, such as:

bulletProper form completion and submission for your Request For Hearing and all appeals.
bulletContact your medical providers to obtain important records and customized reports.
bulletArrange for medical or vocational examinations, if necessary.
bulletPrepare you and any important witnesses for testimony at all hearings.
bulletRepresent you at all hearings and assist you in testifying and  presenting evidence and witnesses. Also cross-examine SSA's expert witnesses.
bulletAttempt to reopen any old application for benefits that you may have filed to try to maximize your benefits.

Time is important.   If you wait too long to apply or to file a Request For Hearing to appeal, under the law you may lose your entitlement to some or all of your benefits.  Call us today to arrange a free consultation with a lawyer, without obligation.
